Community & advocacy programming

Visibility is a form of aid.

Bringing Greater Cleveland together to engage, advocate, and celebrate Ukrainian culture is at the heart of the CMA mission. Over the years CMA has hosted and sponsored dozens of community festivals, cultural events, concerts, exhibitions, vigils, and inter-cultural dialogues across Northeast Ohio.

That programming is not separate from the medical work — it funds it, staffs it, and sustains the political attention that keeps containers moving. Every volunteer in the warehouse and every donor behind a quad bike first met this organization at a gathering.

The second half of the programme is advocacy: CMA stands to amplify the voices of Ukrainians and of everyone advocating for Ukraine, engaging regularly with U.S. and Ohio representatives, Cleveland City Council, NGOs, international embassies, and others committed to Ukrainian flourishing.

Advocacy — Ohio and Washington, DC

CMA's advocacy work carries the operational reality of Ukrainian healthcare into rooms where policy is made. Dr. Taras Mahlay has led the ACU–Ohio delegation to the Ukrainian Action Summit, and CMA representatives attend Washington medical meetings and conferences focused specifically on Ukrainian healthcare.

The organization has taken part in Ukrainian Week and the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington in 2024, 2025, and 2026, and attends Ukrainian Advocacy Days each year. Closer to home, CMA engages continuously with Ohio's congressional delegation, state representatives, and Cleveland City Council.

Cultural programming & community events

Festivals, concerts, exhibitions, vigils, church gatherings, and inter-cultural dialogues held across Greater Cleveland. Some are celebrations of Ukrainian music, food, and craft; others are vigils marking anniversaries no one wanted to reach.

These events are the recruiting ground for everything else CMA does. They introduce new volunteers to the warehouse, new donors to the medic training programme, and new Northeast Ohio neighbours to a community that has been here for generations.
